A Love Letter from the Mediterranean

In the world of luxury weddings, “refined” often becomes a synonym for “boring.” When Clara Bellini and Theo Marchetti approached us, they brought with them a cross-cultural love story that deserved more than a standard template. Their request was specific but challenging: transform their sentimental history into a collectible experience. They didn’t want a trendy announcement; they wanted an intimate, European keepsake that felt timeless the moment it was opened.

Our role encompassed everything from brand story development and color strategy to the illustration system and material direction.

Breaking the "Sea of Sameness"

The first step was analyzing the current landscape of wedding stationery. We found a market saturated with predictability: heavy reliance on generic florals, safe beige palettes, and mass-produced sentimentality.

Clara and Theo’s guests are what we identified as “Sentimental Sophisticates.” These are visually literate individuals who value heritage over spectacle. They keep handwritten notes and appreciate the patina of age. To reach them, we had to overcome the barrier of “ornamental luxury.” We needed to create a design that signaled cultural depth and quiet sophistication without shouting.

European Nostalgia

We needed to tap into an emotion rather than a trend. The strategic angle became "A Love Letter from the Mediterranean."

We moved away from the sharp edges of modern digital design and toward a “messy,” human aesthetic. The goal was for the stationery to look discovered in an old travel trunk, rather than manufactured in a print shop. We focused on emotional drivers—specifically, the desire to pause time. We wanted guests to hold the invitation and feel the warmth of the Italian coast before they even booked their flight.

The Visual Solution

The new identity finds the "third space" between modern minimalism (which can feel cold) and vintage romance (which can feel dusty).

We developed a flowing handwritten wordmark paired with a delicate floral accent. The form feels personal rather than corporate, aligning with the intimate act of gifting flowers.

Instead of the usual high-contrast colors, we chose tones that felt sun-faded and collected over time:

  • Dusty Aqua: The calm Mediterranean air.
  • Soft Coral Red: Passion and celebration.
  • Blush Ivory & Muted Sage: Paper nostalgia and natural softness.

We rejected the “Ultra-Minimal” route (too cold) and the “Botanical Luxury” route (too generic). Instead, we developed a system of hand-drawn symbols that act as a narrative:

  • The Scooter: Represents movement, youth, and the winding Italian streets.
  • Architectural Linework: Grounds the event in heritage and place.
  • Citrus Motifs: Evokes the freshness and Southern warmth of the destination.

The Tactile Experience

A digital file can never replicate the weight of paper. We utilized a layered invitation format to create a sense of "unwrapping a memory."

The main card is a distinctive oval shape, breaking the monotony of square envelopes. But the true charm lies in the die-cut inserts. The custom-shaped scooter and citrus cards function not just as information holders, but as decorative artifacts. They are tangible pieces of the story that guests can pin to a board or tuck into a mirror frame long after the wedding is over.

The Outcome

The result was a transformation from a functional requirement into a foundational storytelling piece. The stationery set the tone for the entire event. As Clara & Theo told us:

This didn’t feel like stationery. It felt like receiving a piece of our story in the mail. Every guest called us the moment they opened it.

By prioritizing narrative over decoration and intimacy over grandeur, we created a suite that didn't just invite people to a wedding—it transported them there.
